We all want our children to be interested in life and engaged in their own personal development.
Ideally, our children will not only stay out of trouble, but will find pursuits that they can be passionate about – pursuits that will hopefully have long-term benefits into adulthood.
Dance classes such as those we offer at DK Dance Studio in Florissant, Missouri are an excellent method of keeping children engaged in the learning process and away from the television for a few hours.
According to a study published by Colorado State University, children who participate in after school activities are 49% less likely to try recreational drugs, and are 37% less likely to become teen parents than those children who have no after school activities.
Considering the time, money and work involved in sorting out a child who is on drugs or who is a teen parent, I believe it is important for us to consider how to keep our children engaged in personal growth after school is out.
Dance classes are a wonderful way to get children engaged in after school activities.
Children who take dance lessons:
- Develop confidence in front of others
- Become physically fit
- Learn discipline and the benefits of practice
As a parent who wants to give their child the best possible chance for success, wouldn’t it be valuable to have your children voluntarily engaged in an activity that will make them less likely to use drugs or become young parents? I think so. It’s one of the reasons I teach dance nearly every day at our dance studio in Florissant, Missouri.
Dance is a terrific way for students to become more interested in a wide range of music, learn how to use their bodies and learn the discipline of hard practice.
