Growing up as a dancer/tumbler/athlete, the presence of my family has always allowed me to keep pushing when things got/get hard. The love and encouragement I felt from them always motivated me to BE more and DO more. Of course, my two brothers got pretty annoyed with me dancing in front of the tv or when my mom would MAKE them come to my recitals each year, but they were there for me, always. (Side note: my older brother sat next to my friend at the recital my senior year where they exchanged numbers...they have been married 15 years in October...you are welcome! Ha!)
Their strength inspired me to be the best I could be. And, I am so thankful to be part of the #dktribe where we are family. Because I was built and raised with family and support, it is so important for me to provide that same culture to the students of DK Dance Productions. Our dedication to growth and personal achievement is at the forefront of our curriculum and staff coaching.
We understand that in the communities we serve, we have so many unique family situations. Our goal is to focus on classroom encouragement and foster growth in each individual student to push for a win, whether that be big or small. Because we all know that working hard towards a goal and accomplishing it feels pretty amazing.
Whether it is a weekly class or a big performance, the encouragement, love, and confidence your child gets from you is what pushes them to build their dreams, achieve their goals, and keeps them excited to learn new things in class. As they develop, they look to YOU to provide that support to keep them going when the going gets tough. Be their rock and their trampoline! Keep them grounded by holding them accountable but bounce them to new heights with confidence so they can achieve what they set out to do!
Kids look for support in so many ways. This could be a hug, a smile, a nudge, or a simple, “I’m proud of you”. Ask your child how the class was or what they learned that was new to them. Practicing at home with them is another great way to show your support. They will be proud to show you and excited that you asked. It is our job as adults to be the cheerleaders of the children. WE are training the leaders of tomorrow and what we do for them matters! Be their example! Be their support! Be their leader!
It has never been more evident the DK Dance Productions Tribe is a family than in the last 18 months. As COVID-19 decimated small businesses like ours, my family also fought a battle with a terminal illness. In May of this year, my mother, the ultimate dance mom and my best friend, lost her battle with ALS. The outpouring of love and support from our #dktribe was a true testament that you do not have to be blood-related to be family. The families of the studio wrapped us in love during such a difficult time. That is what family is about and I’m proud to say we are all family here at DK Dance Productions.
